Point-of-sale proof of concept
The Bank of England conducted a point-of-sale proof of concept to test whether a potential UK digital pound could be used for everyday in-store payments using existing payment infrastructure. The experiment demonstrated that current UK point-of-sale terminals could technically initiate digital pound payments using EMV standards and smart cards without requiring major hardware modifications.
