FinTech in the Courtroom: Evidence from Electronic Foreclosures

This paper investigates how embedding financial technology (FinTech) within the judicial system affects collateral liquidity in mortgage markets. Exploiting the staggered introduction of electronic bidding across Florida’s courthouses, I show that success probability of mortgage foreclosure auctions increases by 39%, and price discounts shrink by 53%.
