
Does Media Sentiment Influence Bank Supervision?
This paper investigates the influence of media sentiment on the supervisory ratings of bank holding companies (BHCs) issued by the Federal Reserve System. Using an instrumented differences-in-differences approach, we find that negative media coverage has a significant effect on supervisory outcomes, specifically leading to weaker risk management ratings.
