In her 2015 speech to the OECD, Mary Starks used the "Back to the Future" hoverboard as a metaphor for the rapid transition from concept to market. She argued that while the first internet revolution merely put "online banking" on a screen, the second wave—FinTech—was fundamentally disrupting the "stodgy" traditional banking core.
