Denis Beau: Innovate to simplify, simplify before innovating - some ideas for effective, risk-based supervision

Speaking at the Supervision Innovators Conference in Frankfurt on 24 September 2025, Denis Beau, First Deputy Governor of the Bank of France, called for a more balanced approach to innovation in financial supervision. Emphasising that “innovation must serve simplification – and vice versa,” he cautioned against overreliance on technology without first streamlining existing supervisory processes.
