A Note on the Use of Machine Learning in Central Banking

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) have gained significance in central banking decisions over the last few years. In this note, the authors briefly discuss how AI and ML can support monetary policy decisions drawing from examples of the European Central Bank and Bank of England. They identified four key areas where central banks use AI and ML, i.e.

  • Use cases, geography and tags
  • Organizations that created, adopted or are mentioned
  • Ecosystem position
  • Link to the original asset
